Haiti Relief From Charlottesville
January 21, 2010 - Posted By KDS
Captain Jim Perkins of the Fairfax Fire Department was with the first Search and Rescue team to arrive in Haiti. He has been working 12 plus hours per day in efforts to pull bodies from the rubble of the earthquake.Captain Perkins is a member of Covenant Church, a Bible teacher, and his wife Patty is Business Administrator of Covenant Church. Captain Perkins and his team have been featured on CNN and in the Washington Post.

The Search and Rescue team is headquartered in tents in 90 degree weather. More than once they have worked for hours to remove rubble for a rescue only to have another tremor cause further collapse and have to start all over. He is not able to make a phone call or have any direct contact with his family. Evening conference calls are held with all family members to update them on the work of the team and whether every one is safe.

Covenant Church has sponsored missionaries Dr. Chuck Harris and Harold Haga for work in Haiti. Support has also been given to Lloyd and Edna Frazier, and Lovell and Jeanette Carey, all veteran missionaries of Haiti.

The Harris Family and Harold Haga are former members of Covenant. In addition, Covenant Church provided funds to build one of the first missionary medical clinics in Haiti. Pastor Harold Bare and his family have also done missionary work in Haiti.

The story of Haiti is up close and personal for Covenant Church. Our hearts are constrained to prayer and charity.
