Ministry on the Margins at Grapefield Church of God

Ministry is simply serving where God has planted you. Finding God’s will can be difficult, but certainly attainable. Through establishing vision, seizing opportunities, and responding to individual needs, it will enable a church to clarify God’s will and purpose for a local congregation.

When my wife Deborah and I left a long term pastorate to come to Bland County, Virginia, we didn’t know what or where it would be. In our hearts we knew God had an assignment for us. Waiting upon God (which is hard to do sometimes), the Lord led us to the Grapefield Church of God in August 2019. Grapefield is a small church in size and number, but a church full of wonderful, godly, faithful people.

We arrived just in time to encounter a very difficult problem: the basement of the church was covered in black mold. This space was used primarily as our fellowship hall.  It would be an easy fix; just needed $8200.00 to solve the problem. Knowing that God had placed us there, but not knowing how we could raise that much money, we chose to believe God and go to work.

In reality all we did was stand back and watch God begin to work. So many people were a part of this; the Virginia Church of God State Office, the State Council, many pastors and churches, and many others contributed to this project. In just a little over two month, more than $10,000.00 had come in to have the mold removed. Our God is a GREAT GOD!

We are now looking for ministry opportunities to serve our community. From the start, we have believed it is God’s will for our church to grow and to be a vital part of this area until Jesus comes again.
