Kingdom Point Church of God

A Small Church’s Impact on Their Local Community

While in prayer for the church’s vision for the upcoming year (then 2019), God placed within my heart the statement “I See Clearly 2020.”  It was then that I began to sense that it would be our year of seeing more clearly on many topics that impacted our faith. One of those was impacting the community around us.

The Kingdom Point Church of God’s mission is to  Love God – Grow Together – Serve the Community

Little did I know how important our mission would be in our community when our country was hit by the Covid19 Pandemic as well as when social unrest pressed itself into our lives.  Focusing on the three key elements of our church’s mission would be significant in showing Christ to the world around us no matter what year it is. However, in such times as we find ourselves today, focusing on such simple, yet powerful elements positions us to show Christ in an even greater way.  The more difficult the time, the greater the opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor

In order to have influence and strike an impressionable impact on our community, God has given our church an outreach program that solidifies the true element of loving God.  We call it “Neighbor Helping Neighbor.”  A few examples of how the program began to grow started when a few of our men became aware of women in our church needing wood during the wintertime to heat their homes. Then they set up a "Tiny House" complete with running water, electricity, and heat for a handicapped woman. Other examples included rewiring an electric box for a family that just needed help and the ladies of our church putting together a food basket for a woman undergoing cancer treatments.

These, plus countless other projects, are meant to show the love and faithfulness of Christ’s followers in and around our communities.  Simply put, it’s you and I using the time, talent, and resources that God has given us to help the community around us be a better place.  We accepted the attitude that no matter our age or financial status, we would bring together what we had and do what we could in order to help our church and our community.

As the Pandemic began to take hold, coupled with the social unrest that we find in our lives, Kingdom Point sought to expand the Neighbor Helping Neighbor program to include Feeding the Community.  When Covid19 spread and became very real, so did unemployment and the needs of our community.

We were already equipped with a food bank; however, it was not enough to meet the growing demand.  We began collecting even more food and joined with God's Pit Crew and their food give-out program. The effort of collecting food would be a month-long event ending with the give-out on the last Thursday of every month.

It’s great to see our church come out and participate with unloading product, sorting by category, and packing food bags for distribution. When all bags are filled, we then load everything into a trailer and drive to a predetermined location.  We set up a canopy and give food as people drive up.  People from all walks of life, Christian and non-Christian, have come by and participated in receiving food.  While growing together as a community, we also keep our ears open for any needs mentioned.

A glass of water, that piece of bread, an item of clothing, that visit… these little things, my friend, are what the Lord asks of you. These things are love manifested for the hungry one, the thirsty, the sick, the one in prison, the broken one, the one who suffers, and the one who’s alone, as the Bible tells us in Matthew 25:35-40:

“‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink’ … ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?’ … ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

God has richly blessed Kingdom Point with volunteer teams using what skills they have to become an integral part of the Neighbor Helping Neighbor program and reaching our community with the love of Christ.
